LDP102 Overfill Probe
TITLE:
Liquid-sensing probes for use as overfill protection on road tankers and in storage tanks.
PURPOSE:
To provide a probe that is compatible with existing gantry monitors and interchangeable with current probes.
OPERATION:
Sensing mechanism used is the different behaviour of a light beam in a glass prism when the prism is wet instead of dry. There is a very large difference in refractive index of air compared with petroleum liquids and this difference provides a very well defined and reliable switching point. In air, the light beam reflects back internally, in liquid the beam is refracted out into the liquid and "lost". Electronics in the probe are designed to create the light beam, detect its return or disappearance and pass that message to the Rack Monitor for appropriate response.
SPECIFICATION:
Glass prism. Three stage viton sealing. Solid state electronics in potting compound.
Anodised aluminium retainer & body.
Extension bars of aluminium to suit various length applications.
Trigger point ±0.5mm repeatability. The prism is Light-shield by the retainer.
Probe can be removed from tank top without having to access interior to remove
a hood.

FOL100 Fibre Optic Probe
TITLE:
LPG Overfill Protection Probe housing with fibre optic sensors.
PURPOSE:
To provide a sealed housing with secure clamping for fibre optic probes.
SPECIFICATION:
All wetted components are made from glass, Viton and Zinc plated steel. The sensor
is supplied with 8 metres of integral fibre optic paired cable with prepared ends
for connection to the terminals in the monitor.
Because of the greater length of fibre optic cable in the run from
sensor to monitor, it is permissible to split the cable in a junction box with a
joiner if this aids installation.
To extend the cable, use a joiner as listed below with end preparation
according to either PPM300 series, S.P.D.S. or MPP100 manual.
Note: the Liquip fibre optic system operates up to 60 metres without any
joint and this reduces by an average of 20 metres for each double-cable join
(varies according to quality of end polishing).
As a general rule, never use a join if not essential, never use more than
one join in a cable run and limit the cable run to 40 metres maximum.
The housing body incorporates a shear groove above the sealing point
of the probe. If the housing is hit, the housing is designed to break away at the
shear groove leaving the probe still in position and the tank still fully sealed.
OPERATION:
The FOL100 has no electrical components. The sensor tip consists of a glass tubular housing with an integral ground prism, holding dual fibre optic cables. These cables transmit light to and from the monitor using the prism to either reflect or refract the light signal according to whether the prism is wet or dry.
PERIODIC SERVICE:
No routine maintenance required.
DISMANTLE:
Remove pressure from tank. Disconnect the fibre optic cable from the monitor.
Unscrew complete housing from 2"NPT boss being careful not to damage the fibre
optic cable.
NOTE: screw only via flats (70mm AF) provided. Warranty is void if force
applied via shear groove.
On work bench remove the lid and pull the fibre optic cable through
the gland. Unscrew the 2 retaining screws (item 5). Pull the retaining bush
(item 2) out. Then remove the probe by carefully pushing the tip end. Note;
2 o-rings will come out with the probe.
Remove o-rings from the probe, then remove retaining bush from
the cable.
RE-ASSEMBLY:
Check the o-ring in the body (item 7), replace if necessary. Slide 2 new o-rings (item 8) over the probe and slide the probe into the body. Thread the fibre optic cable through the retaining bush and place the retaining bush over the end of the probe. Secure the bush with the 2 retaining screws to a torque of 4 Nm. Thread the fibre optic cable through the gland & test the probe. Pressure test the assembly before screwing on the lid and check for any leaks. Then attach the lid then screw back into the socket.

TP104 Truck Plug
TITLE:
Truck plug for overfill protection with added ground assurance.
PURPOSE:
Industry standard 10 pin overfill protection plug interchangeable with others of the same type. However incorporates no-cost wiring connectors that ensure the tanker is bonded to the gantry so long as the plug body is correctly mounted. This dissipates static electricity and prevents sparks due to differences in potential.
OPERATION:
TP series provides standard 10 pin connection for tanker system with room for an
electronic dummy should this be required in a 2-wire operation.
All of the above is normal.
Where TP series differs is in the way it ensures good grounding of the tanker
to the gantry and ensures dissipation of static electricity and so eliminates sparks.
Hence the name "Ground Boss"
It has long been a recommended practice to break the number 10 common earth
return and "force" it through the tanker chassis by terminating and bolting
the wire through the chassis at a distance apart to ensure grounding of the tank.
However the difficulty in doing this cheaply and neatly has meant that few tankers
used the technique.
"Ground Boss" achieves this at essentially no cost by using the mounting
bolts inside the plug. Internal insulating bushes ensure the only electrical path is via
the external fastener, i.e. those bolted to the tanker: and the number 10 common earth
wire is run from pin 10 to one bolt head and from under the other bolt head out via
conduit to the probes. 9 and 10 are simply looped together if required. Therefore the
only way the tanker can load is by having its tank in good contact with the rack monitor
earth.
Caution! The "Ground Boss" truck plug must be bolted to the
tanker main structure, not to a potentially-isolated bracket or bolted-on substructure.
SPECIFICATION:

MPP102 Mini Monitor
TITLE:
Overfill protection monitor for loading using electro-optic sensors, fibre-optic sensors, or both.
PURPOSE:
To provide a compact, economical over-fill monitor for one or two compartment tankers and stand-alone storage tanks.
OPERATION:
The mini monitor operates using 2-wire electronic or fibre-optic liquid sensors. The
loading is stopped when the liquid sensor is wet, the signal provided by an un-powered
relay output rated at 24Vdc 1A or 12Vdc 1A. This signal is input to the tank control system
to either stop liquid flow or sound an alarm. LED indicators show the condition of the
system at all times.
MPP102 can alternatively be used as an earth assurance monitor when installed with
EAC201 & DP250N. This ensures the vehicle is grounded before any loading/unloading
operations are carried out.
Can be used as earth assurance device. Mini monitor is designed to IEC, EN & Cenelec
Safety Standards.

PURPOSE:
For road tanker Overfill Protection and Retain sensing.
The PPM310 is a detection system designed for electronic overfill protection and
fibre optic retain sensing.
The PPM320 is a detection system designed for fibre optic overfill protection and
retain sensing.
The PPM330 is a detection system designed for electronic overfill protection only.
OPERATION:
The truck 'Protector' uses optical sensors and fibre optic sensors for operation. Both fivewire
and two wire optical sensors can be used for overfill protection and the fibre optic can
be used for overfill or retain sensing. The Truck Protector can be configured to monitor up
to eight compartments. The Truck Protector is designed to meet Cenelec requirements.
The Truck Protector monitors each sensor status, guard bar and gantry monitor connected
to the Truck Protector via a truck plug. Typical operation is as follows. Lift the guard bar,
attach the gantry plug and normal loading procedure is applied. Loading can not proceed if
the retain sensors are wet unless override key is used (not available for overfill only
PPM330). Once loading, loading is stopped if a preset limit is reached or the overfill
protection is activated.
